What is there to do in Sarasota?

Sarasota is renown for both cultural and recreational activities.  You may already be familiar with the decades of top beach ratings associated with Siesta Key Beach, owing to the powdered-sugar sand and warm gulf waters. But what else is there to do?  Of course, boating and kayaking (my particular favorite) activities abound.  Charter a boat for deep fishing in the gulf, or rent from Freedom Boat Club and cruise the intercoastal waters, or go kayaking in the mangroves (that’s me on the front image of my site, with the Ritz Carlton Beach Residences behind me).  Many will choose to rent a jet ski or achor off the sand bars.

Bike riding is extremely popular, especially along the Legacy trail, which runs for miles from North Sarasota down to Port Charlotte. Walkers with or without dogs can be seen everywhere.  Downtown Sarasota is very walkable and safe day or night.  Residents can play tennis, pickleball, golf, run and walk year round.

The Ringling Museam is a highly rated art museum in the most gorgeous setting with a fascinating history.  The property also houses the iconic original Ringling home, Ca d’Zan, which is open for tours.  Many events occur on the grounds, including Yoga Thursdays at sunset.  Many other performances and events occur throughout the year.  Also not to be missed, is the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.

For entertainment, there are many options.  The Van Wezel center brings top acts, musicals, performers and speakers.  The Bay park project has just opened to rave reviews and brings an entirely new level of recreation and entertainment to the downtown waterfront (https://www.thebaysarasota.org/).  Under construction and due to open in 2023 (mote aquarium), the newly constructed Mote Science Education Aquarium, or MOTE SEA, will live at the Nathan Benerson Park and serve as an interactive facility to experience and learn aout the oceans and our planet.  On any given weekend, you will find a host of activities and interests to explore and enjoy.  For more specific suggestions, visit:
